🌿 A Grain That Feeds the World

For thousands of years, rice has been more than food.
It has been the heart of civilizations, the foundation of families, and the soul of many cultures across Asia and beyond.

A single grain of rice may look simple, yet it carries the story of human survival, hard work, gratitude, and life itself.

In many countries, especially in Vietnam, rice is considered sacred.
People respect rice because it feeds generations, brings families together, and represents prosperity and peace.

In the past, every grain of rice was precious.
Farmers worked under the sun for months to grow the rice fields. After harvest season, families carefully dried and cleaned the rice, selecting only the best grains to keep for daily meals.

Rice was stored in large jars or containers inside the home — a symbol of security and abundance.
When the rice jar slowly became empty, families would begin processing the rice again for cooking.

This is where our journey begins.

🌾 FROM PADDY TO WHITE RICE

Guests are invited to experience the traditional process exactly as people did generations ago.

First, the harvested rice is placed into a traditional bamboo rice mill.

🌿 Bamboo Rice Milling Experience

This is one of the most exciting parts of the journey.

Guests will:

  • pour the rice into the bamboo mill
  • turn the wooden handle by hand
  • hear the natural sound of the grains moving inside

As the mill turns, the outer husk is gently removed, revealing the rice hidden inside.

But the process is not finished yet.

🪨 STONE POUNDING – REVEALING PURE WHITE RICE

After milling, the rice is placed into a traditional stone mortar.

Using a wooden pestle, guests pound the rice carefully to remove the thin layer of bran.

Slowly, the grains become cleaner, smoother, and brighter — transforming into pure white rice.

This process teaches patience, effort, and appreciation for something we often take for granted today.

💧 FROM RICE TO BATTER

The rice is then soaked in water until soft.

After soaking, guests use a traditional stone grinder to slowly grind the rice together with water, creating a smooth rice batter.

This fresh batter becomes the foundation of many beloved Vietnamese dishes, including:

  • Bánh Xèo (Vietnamese sizzling pancake)
  • Mì Quảng (Central Vietnamese noodles)
  • Rice sheets and traditional cakes

🍜 MORE THAN A COOKING CLASS

This experience is not simply about making food.

It is about:

  • understanding where food truly comes from
  • reconnecting with traditional life
  • appreciating the journey behind every meal

At Ráng, we invite you to slow down, use your hands, and experience the soul of Vietnamese culture through the story of rice.
